Linked Tiles
Before adding more detail it is necessary to have a basic understanding of linked tiles. There are a number of tile sets that have link requirements. The main sets are rivers, beaches and cliffs. There are certain rules on how they can be placed together; going against these rules will result in missing tile data.
In the above example you can see a representation of the 2x2 beach tile set (sea_coast). The red dot indicates the point at which the tiles are being blended together to create a single consecutive beach on the battlefield. Although these are 2x2 tiles it is worth noting that the blend itself only takes place across a 1x1 tile space. Therefore when adding\editing the 2x2 linked tile sets, you need to ensure that your adding\removing using a 2 pixel brush, with at least one pixel adjacent to allow the linking to take place.
An uneven or misplaced pixel will result in missing tile data. These will be identified\dealt with later in the process.
