River Crossing Tiles

River crossing tiles contain bridges and fording points that are required for River Crossing battles. As armies on the campaign map can cross rivers at any point it is necessary to provide enough crossing points along the length of all the rivers to ensure they’re playable. It is also necessary for each battle to have two crossing points for the AI to function optimally. As with coastal battles, a river battle will be invalidated if it contains cliffs, settlements, mountains, lakes and river sources\mouths. See below for an example of optimal river crossing placement.

The lighter blue are the river two river fords next to each other, and the purple tiles are bridges. The bridges will occur at any point the roads overlap with the rivers.

Core Tiles

The core tiles are used to create battlefields for land & ambush battles. These tiles make up the bulk of the map and represent the most time consuming part of the process. Although all of the core tiles will work anywhere, there are some that have been specifically created to work in a specific climate (Mediterranean has an additional set).

Above is an overview of the core tiles and the different tile sets that they used to create. In many instances the same or similar tile height maps are used between these sets. For example the rolling hills tile set also has light forest, dense forest and agricultural set variants that utilise the same height map. Ambush hints are built into the larger (4x4, 8x8) core tile sets. You will need to ensure that there are enough of these tile sizes used to ensure ambush battles can be triggered at any location on the map without too much teleporting.
